“FASTag” is an electronic sticker that helps you get automatic permission at the toll gate without paying anything! New rules have come into effect on FASTag from today. Let’s see about it in detail!
How does FASTag work
- FASTag is a white and blue sticker (to be pasted on the windshield of the vehicle).
- The sticker has a small chip. It communicates with the toll gate through radio waves.
- When your vehicle reaches the toll gate, the fee will be automatically deducted from your bank or wallet account.
- Once the fee is paid, the gate will open automatically!

FASTag New Rules
If there is no money in the FASTag, it will be “blacklisted” 60 minutes ago. This means that if the FASTag has a low balance before you travel, it will not allow you to make transactions at the toll booth. Even if it is blacklisted, there is no penalty if you top up within 70 minutes. If you continue without recharging, the FASTag will not work.
If you cross the toll booth with a blacklisted FASTag, you will have to pay double toll. That is, if you travel without a FASTag in proper condition, you will have to pay a higher fee. After filling the money, you have to wait 10 minutes (until the gate opens). That is, even if you fill it immediately, you can use it only after 10 minutes.
What Happens if you Violate the New FASTag Rules
If there is no money in the FASTag, you will have to stop the vehicle and pay in cash. If you cross the toll gate with a blacklisted FASTag, you will have to pay double the normal fee. If you do not recharge and wait for 10 minutes, the gate will not open. You will have to stand at the toll stop.
Important Note: You may have a question about how to remove the blacklist. For that, you can select the “Re-Activate FASTag” option in the banking app.
4 simple Tips to Wvoid FASTag Problems
- Always keep at least ₹200 in FASTag.
- You can “auto recharge” on your bank app or PAYTM. For example, if your balance goes below ₹100, it will automatically top up to ₹500.
