Honda has launched its first electric motorcycle, the E-VO, in China. The bike has been developed in collaboration with a local Chinese joint venture, Wuyang-Honda. Honda has made it clear that it is designed exclusively for the Chinese market and that the Chinese company played a major role in its development, so the model is unlikely to be launched in any other country outside China.
The Honda E-VO electric motorcycle is priced between CNY 30,000 and CNY 37,000 in Chinese yuan. If this price is converted to Indian rupees, it will be around Rs. 3.56 lakh to Rs. 4.39 lakh. This makes it clear that this bike is an expensive premium model.
The Honda E-VO electric bike is available in two battery options. The first option is a 4.1 kWh battery, which can travel up to 120 kilometers on a full charge. The second option is a 6.2 kWh battery, which is capable of providing a range of up to 170 km. As for the charging time, the 4.1 kWh battery can be charged in 1 hour and 30 minutes using a home charger and in about 1 hour using a car charger.
Similarly, the 6.2 kWh battery requires 2 hours and 30 minutes using a home charger; it charges in 1 hour and 30 minutes using a car charger. This gives customers the freedom to choose between travel distance and charging facilities.
The Honda E-VO electric bike is designed in a stylish coffee racer style. It is made entirely of aluminum alloy. The bike weighs 143 kg with a 4.1 kWh battery and 156 kg with a 6.2 kWh battery. There is a 16-inch wheel at the front and a 14-inch wheel at the rear, both come with semi-slick tires. Dual-channel ABS is provided for safety. Along with this, a 7-inch TFT dashboard is provided and there are modern features like Navigation, Music control, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Battery Status (SOC).
Three different riding modes are provided according to the travel needs – Eco, Normal, Sport. The 4.1kWh model has a front dashcam, while the 6.2kWh model has a rear dashcam. The bike is available in two colors – black and white. The electric motor in it is capable of producing a maximum power of 20.5 bhp.
Honda has introduced two electric scooters, Activa e and QC1, as its first foray into the Indian electric vehicle market. Although both these models come with modern features, they did not attract much attention among the customers. Due to the lack of expected reception, these models did not make much of an impact in the Indian market.
Other Japanese automobile companies like Suzuki and Yamaha are also ready to contribute their share in the Indian electric vehicle market. Suzuki is developing its first electric scooter, the e-Access, for the Indian market. The scooter is currently in production and its price is expected to be announced soon. Similarly, Yamaha is also planning to develop an electric scooter based on the River Indie and launch it in India by the end of 2025. This is considered a key part of their electric vehicle plan.
Overall, Honda is only now entering the electric two-wheeler sector. This is similar to the position of other Japanese companies like Suzuki and Yamaha. The E-VO electric bike launched by Honda is built with very modern features and is designed exclusively for the Chinese market. Therefore, the main point of this news is that this bike is not likely to be launched in the global market, especially in India.
