Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir: On Tuesday, more than 26 people were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir. It is worrying that most of the dead were tourists from outside the state.
The sudden attack, which involved firing and a bomb blast, caused tension and heavy casualties at the scene. Security forces have cordoned off the scene and are conducting an intensive investigation.

The attack is the biggest terrorist incident since the Indian government abrogated Article 370 of the Indian Constitution in August 2019, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
The attack has drawn strong condemnation at the state and national levels. Many have demanded deep condolences to the families of the victims and a fair investigation to identify the culprits.

What was the buzz after that?
Some Hindutva organizations (i.e., religiously-based, hardline Hindu-supporting organizations) have started spreading false information on social media regarding this attack.
The false accusation they are spreading:
• The perpetrators of this attack are Muslim extremists.
• They asked the tourists, “What religion do you belong to?”
• For that, they tried to identify who had been circumcised by removing their outer garments (undergarments).
• Then, knowing “Who are the Hindus?”, they started killing.
But what is the truth?
This information is false. Hindutva organizations are spreading false information in this way to incite religious conflict (i.e., to create enmity between Hindus and Muslims).
The real story
In that attack, many Muslims risked their lives to save the Hindus there. They helped out of humanity, regardless of religious differences.
Kashmiri mosques condemn Pahalgam attack
Kashmiri mosques have expressed their unanimous condemnation over the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed several tourists.
Jamia Masjids in various parts have expressed their dismay over the attack, saying that “this is not just an attack against a group of people, it is a heinous attack on humanity.” They have also condemned the attack on tourists and the spread of rumours that it is against the tenets of Islam.
Local mosques have also unanimously condemned the violence and stressed that “those involved in such heinous acts should face strict legal action.”
Peace and tolerance are hallmarks of Kashmiri heritage. Any force that tries to disrupt peace in such a land will be defeated by the unity of the people, the mosques said.

Interview with the person who was injured in the firing.
Reporter’s question:
“What happened? How did the firing start? How many people were there? Did they shoot after asking your name?” When asked for relevant information, the person said this..
The victim’s answer:
“I was sitting quietly. That’s when the firing suddenly started. First, one… two… three, bullets started raining down like rain.
I don’t know where they fired from. They fired from behind.
• What religion?
• What is your name?
Nothing was asked. They shot in a normal, uncontrolled manner. A situation where nothing could be understood !”
This testimony is an important piece of evidence that reveals the truth, replacing the many false rumors circulating regarding the attack.

Kashmiri Muslims save mother and son
A woman lost her husband in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam. At that time, she and her child were in a very dangerous situation. In that desperate situation, three young men from the area saw them and immediately came to their aid. Realizing that the mother and son were affected, they said, “Bismillah… Bismillah” (an Islamic prayer phrase – meaning “in the name of Allah”) and took them to a safe place.

What did the woman say?
They are no longer strangers to me! I consider them my brothers.
She said these words in gratitude for their courage, compassion and humanity.
Muslim youth saves tourists
The incident of a brave young man, Syed Adil, sacrificing his life while fighting to save the captive tourists during the terrorist attack in Pahalgam has caused grief across the country.
Syed Adil, who worked as a horse driver, tried to evacuate a group of passengers safely during the attack. He did not even consider his own life to be indifferent, but with a sense of humanity and duty, he did not fail to save the passengers, and he died a heroic death in the attack by the terrorists.
While many emotional posts have increased on social media, praises have been widely expressed that “people like Syed Adil prove that humanity transcends religion and region.”

Conclusion
Humanity is the ultimate religion. While some people lost their lives in Pahalgam, many saved their lives. Regardless of religion, those who showed mercy are the real people. Syed Adil’s sacrifice, the courage of the Kashmiri youth
All these speak to one truth. The answer to violence should be love. The terrorists should be punished regardless of their religion.
