Toyota Kirloskar Motor Company has recorded a record sales record in May 2025. A total of 30,864 vehicles were sold in that month. Out of this, 29,280 vehicles were sold in domestic markets like India and 1,584 vehicles were exported abroad. This is a growth of 22 percent compared to 25,273 units sold in May last year. Moreover, with a total of 58,188 vehicles sold in April and May 2025, this is 27 percent more than the 45,767 vehicles sold in the same two months last year. This data shows how Toyota’s sales conditions have improved.

Toyota Highest Car Sales Record. 22% Growth!

The main reason for Toyota’s sales growth is SUV and MPV vehicles. Sales in both these categories increased by 34 percent between April and May 2025. In particular, the Fortuner and Legender models have sold a total of 3 lakh units in India so far. This achievement confirms that Toyota has a strong position in the premium SUV segment and has gained high confidence among customers in this segment.

Toyota badge-engineered models

The badge-engineered models have been a major contributor to Toyota’s sales growth. The Baleno-based Glanza, the Ertiga-based Rumion and the Fronx-based Taisor have also been well received in the market. Along with this, a minor update has been introduced in the MPV line-up called the Innova HyCross Exclusive Edition. A total of 19 new features have been added, which mostly involve changes in the car’s appearance and additional amenities. All these are designed to meet the needs of customers.

Rural demand and monsoon expectations support sales growth

Toyota said that the main reason for the sales success in May was the strong demand from rural and semi-urban areas. It was also said that weather factors, in particular, supported this sales growth. Moreover, with the monsoon expected to be above normal this year, there is a possibility of increasing market confidence among customers across the country. This could be a source of future sales success.

SUV and MPV sales growth

Toyota’s Vice President of Sales and Service, Varinder Wadhwa, said that the sales of MPV and SUV categories have grown by 34% during the April-May 2025-26 period. This shows that these categories continue to have high appeal among customers. In particular, the Fortuner and Legender models alone have crossed the 3 lakh unit sales mark in India, confirming their continued leadership in the premium segment.

Toyota to launch first electric vehicle

Toyota plans to launch its first fully electric vehicle, the Urban Cruiser BEV, in the Indian market by 2025. The model will come with two different battery options and is said to offer a range of over 500 km on each full charge. This is considered to be Toyota’s first major step in the electric vehicle sector and a solution that responds to the growing demand and expectation for electric vehicles in India.
