Walmart Recalled 850,000 Water Bottles

Walmart is recalling about 850,000 stainless steel water bottles after three customers reported that the lids suddenly flew off and hit their faces when they opened them, causing two people to lose their vision, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. The recall involves 64-ounce Ozark Trail brand stainless steel insulated water bottles sold in Walmart stores and on its website since 2017. Customers are advised to stop using the bottles because they have a safety defect.

According to a warning issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, certain Ozark Trail water bottles sold at Walmart pose a risk of injury to people. If these are kept for a long time with perishable beverages such as food, carbonated drinks, fruit juice or milk, the lid can suddenly burst open under high pressure when the water jug is opened. This can directly hit the face, which can damage vital organs such as vision. Walmart has received three reports so far. In these cases, the lid hit the face of customers. Two of them suffered eye injuries and were forced to suffer permanent vision loss. This shows that the safety defect in this product is very serious.

The model number that helps identify the affected water jugs is 83-662. However, this number is not mentioned on the bottle, but only on its original box. The water jug is made of silver stainless steel with a black twist-off top. The Ozark Trail logo is clearly visible on the outside of the bottle. The product costs about 15 US dollars. The water jugs are made in China and are manufactured by Olympia Tools International Inc. in California. The product was imported into the United States by Walmart. The product was sold in its stores and on its website.
